毎月中旬になると購読している雑誌が一気に家に届く。それから最近は
光ファイバーを入れたことで恐ろしい量の情報がインターネットを通じて
得ることができるようになり、情報の洪水にやられています。
ふと目にしたCNET梅田氏のコメントが目を引いた。
出版社O'Reillyの社長のスピーチを解説しながら、情報には濃淡があり、
時間をかけてでもじっくり読むべきものがある、とのこと。ネット上の情報
を右から左に追っかけるのではなく、コクのあるものにはがっつりと取り
組んでそれを自分でも咀嚼して、人に伝えられるくらいにまとめる作業、
必要なのでは、とちょうど思ったいたことを言葉にしてくれてありがたく
読みました。

もうひとつ昨夜ちょうどアメリカの母校での始業式のスピーチのリンク

てみた。9月の新学期の季節にキャンパス内のチャペルに学生・教授
が集い、これからの1年間の教育にかける思いを大学長が真摯な言葉
で学生に語りかける機会。教育とは、次世代のリーダーを育成し、古典
・歴史などの重要性に触れながら、パブリックサービスに従事して社会
に貢献することを奨励する力強いものでした。それにしてもやはりアメリカ
